Did you know that more than 2,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually in Puerto Rico, with 10 percent occurring in women under 40? This disease has become the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Puerto Rico, yet over 80 percent of women fight and survive it.
Healthcare professionals agree that early detection and access to appropriate treatment are key to survival. To raise awareness, October has been designated as Cancer Prevention Month in Puerto Rico since 2006; however, there are still areas for improvement.
In this context, as part of its social responsibility to create awareness, educate, and prevent breast cancer, Provider Network Solutions of Puerto Rico (Provider PR) is committed to discussing important public health issues with its network of providers. Provider PR’s Chief Strategy and Clinical Officer, Dr. Eddie Ortiz (EO), spoke with oncologist Dr. Maribel Tirado Gómez (MT) about the epidemiology, clinical management, and industry challenges in Puerto Rico regarding breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.
At Provider Network Solutions of Puerto Rico, we are committed to education on prevention and early detection. Throughout October and the entire year, we work with our network of providers on awareness campaigns and access to services, particularly screening tests.
